The jist of it is that some lawyers are now challenging the law on free speech grounds if the person doesn't profit from the lies.

And I gotta say.... I think I might agree with them a bit. Don't get me wrong, if someone claims to have a medal of honor is milking money from people, then he should be arrested for a crime.

But on the other hand, someone trying to get laid in a bar telling a woman about medals he didn't win..... I dunno, doesn't really smell like a crime to me, although quite a despicable deed.

I mean, if I wanted to, I could go into a bar, tell a woman that I am a firefighter and i won my department's medal of valor for saving 12 kids and 8 kittens from a burning building.... That is okay (as far as the law goes). Tell her I've been to Iraq and I earned a bronze star.... Illegal?
